Who am I? How can I summarize my existence in just a few words? Here is my business/professional side.

I am a Puerto Rican author, teacher, voice artist, world language conference presenter, and content creator currently living in Williamsburg, Virginia. Originally from Villalba, Puerto Rico, but spent my school years in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

I attended the University of Puerto Rico before transferring to SUNY Oswego, where I pursued a business degree in Marketing + Accounting, minoring in Economics. A couple of years after working at my dream job in New York City for Banco de Ponce, now known as Banco Popular, I continued post grad studies, earning an MBA in Finance. Fast forward to the year 2001, a year after my twins were born, I went back to school to pursue a career in teaching with an endorsement in Spanish. Somehow, I also managed to complete 27 post graduate credits in Special education with a focus in reading and literacy.

I have been nominated for Teacher of the year and won several grants, all directed towards bringing literacy to the world language classroom. I have also presented at several world language conferences; NECTFL, SCOLT, and FLAVA [fall 2022], as well as provided PD in my school district. As a Spanish educator, I have a genuine interest in making Latin American culture an everyday experience for my students. I have written and published five books, all focused on giving life to the cultures and people who represent the past, the present, and the future in the Spanish speaking world. The books I write are historical fiction with each printed word fueled by experiences lived as a Puerto Rican in and outside of the island. Two of my goals in writing and publishing books for the classroom are:

  1. To provide texts that represent the Latin American culture from the driver seat.

  2. To give students engaging texts that provide both a mixture of history and fiction, keeping communicative goals in Spanish as the guiding light and driving force.

In addition to teaching, writing, and creating content for the classroom, I enjoy walking, cooking, planting flowers, and going to the beach - especially a beach in the Caribbean Sea. I am married to my longtime friend Jeff and together we have three children: Natalia, Enrique, and Ricardo and a lovable gentle giant Newfoundland dog named Finley.

I have worked in the field of education since 2005 in a myriad of roles. This year will be my 11th year teaching Spanish at the secondary level.

I welcome you to my blog, a space created to share ideas, instructional strategies, and my books, all in an effort to give students a VOICE.

Bendición,

Enid
